Qatar’s K-Net Wins “Best Education Implementation of the Year”

Established to recognize the companies, deployments, and individuals that lead the Middle East market in terms of innovation and professional excellence, the Annual ACN Award Ceremony was held on the evening of October 19 in Dubai. Out of the 13 awards that were presented, Qatar’s progressive K-Net project won “Best Education Implementation of the Year,” honoring the Qatari Supreme Education Council (SEC) and ictQATAR for their foresight and innovation.

In 2006, ictQATAR, with the SEC, launched its e-education strategy to propel Qatar’s K-12 Independent Schools and students into a new knowledge era by adopting cutting-edge e-learning techniques. In 2007, ITWorx, a Microsoft Strategic Education Partner, was selected to implement this strategy. With Microsoft, ITWorx delivered the first phase of Knowledge Net (K-Net) education portal on MLG 2005 (Microsoft Learning Gateway), serving 12 schools.

In 2008, ictQATAR sought to broaden the e-learning capacity of K-Net by migrating to the new MLG 2007 platform, leveraging its enhanced functionalities, and adding more schools as well as thousands of new users. ITWorx was re-entrusted with the implementation.

Concluded in July 2009, K-Net has geared Qatar to become a true knowledge-based and progressive society.

GITEX Global Conference: Wael Amin on Government Performance Management
9/28/2009

Each year the GITEX Global Conference brings together some of the most respected figures in the IT industry in the Gulf, and from around the world, to discuss key issues for technology decision-makers and to share their experiences. This year, Wael Amin, ITWorx President, will tackle the intrinsic role of performance management in governmental organizations; and how effectively monitoring performance draws attention to results and yields significant impact on mission success and financial gains.

In spite of the recession, governments across the Middle East are continuing to invest in technology and infrastructure to expand the reach and delivery of their services. A major focus is the ability to manage performance in light of changing economic challenges whilst enabling greater citizen interaction. Performance management harnesses information technology to help governments increase transparency, link performance to goals, and endorse accountability; raising the value of public services and the level of efficiency with which government bodies are managed. Consistency in focus, data, and accountability provides better visibility, better accountability, and better control for governments.

Labor Ministry Portal, a True Saudi Reality – E-Services to Follow
9/26/2009

ITWorx has delivered the first phase of a secure, user-friendly, online portal to the Ministry of Labor (MoL) in Saudi Arabia, www.mol.gov.sa . Part of the national e-Government initiative, the new portal will allow MoL to better serve its employees, sister ministries, citizens, and private sector companies within the Kingdom.

Concerned with the development and use of the Kingdom’s human resources, MoL is responsible for manpower planning, labor relations, and the general monitoring of all matters relating to labor and employment affairs. The Ministry is also tasked with processing labor disputes, employment in the private sector, and labor permits.

ITWorx was sub-contracted to provide a solution that would consolidate previously disparate MoL systems, provide e-services to the public and for internal use, and uphold an up-to-date and accurate data repository. The new centralized and bilingual (Arabic/English) portal will allow citizens to find MoL information, forms, and announcements in an easy way through a single unified interface, as well as engage MoL services online using a single sign-on procedure, including an e-employment service which is now available.

By raising the availability of information and automating service provisioning, the portal will facilitate business transactions and quicken information exchange among interested parties. The integration and delivery of related e-services through the portal will increase the productivity of MoL labor offices, lower operating costs by reducing redundant manual, paper-based processes, and empower decision-makers and information workers by availing various reporting and business tools.
