How to create user profile in LNM

Purpose & Scope

Follow this procedure to create user profile in LNM 2005 and assign it to users

Procedure

  1. To create customized Desktop Profile
    1. In the LNM server create a new folder under d:\LNM Data\User Profiles\Desktop
      For example New Profile
    2. Login to a workstation with Administrator account Create a user account to act as a test user account. For example, create an account named test.
    3. Log on as the test user account. A user profile is automatically created on the local computer in the c:\Documents and Settings\test folder.
    4. Configure the desktop environment, including appearance, desktop, screen saver, shortcuts, and Start menu options.
    5. Log off.

     
  2. To Copy the Profile to the LNM server
    1. Log on as Administrator
    2. In Control Panel, double-click System, and then click advanced tab then click settings button in the User Profiles. Under Profiles Stored On This Computer, click the profile that you want to copy i.e. test, and then click Copy To.
    3. In the Copy Profile To dialog box, type or browse the network path to the folder. i.e. \\LNM-Server\User Profiles\Desktop\new profile Click OK.
    4. Under Permitted to use click change button click Advanced.. button click find Now button select everyone user click ok then click ok.
    5. In the folder that you created on the network, rename the file Ntuser.dat to Ntuser.man if this is a mandatory user profile.

      Note: to create a terminal service profile repeat the above steps but copy the profile to \\LNM-Server\User Profiles\terminal\new profile

  3. To Add LNM user profile and assign it to users
    1. Log on to the LNM server as Administrator
    2. Click the User Profile Manager link on the Management Console main page; the User Profile Manager Web page opens click on add profile
    3. specify the details of a new user profile:
      • Name
      • Profile Path i.e. New profile
      • Terminal Service Profile i.e. New profile
      • Description
    4. Click Save after you are finished.
    5. Click View All Profiles Click the Assign Users link beside the profile you just created, the Add User Profile Web page open
    6. Through this Web page you can search for the users (or the type of users) you want to assign to a specific profile. Click Search; the next Add User Profile Web page opens
    7. Through this Web page you can select the users you want to assign to a specific profile.
    8. Click Assign to Profile after you select the users.
